| Intro: | At the age of 6 years, I received a "handdown" gift of my elder sister's Baby Box Camera, which did nothing but swallow a film (120) and shoot. There were no adjustments for aperture or shutter speed or anything at all, except a small lever on the side which when pressed would bring a dark lens in front of the camera, to shoot in bright sunlight. That was 52 years ago. Photography and I both have come a long way since then. Being a Government Officer's son and also being fond of travelling I have had ample opporunities to shoot at various locations and occassions and have been lucky to have used many different cameras with different mediums like Black n White, Colour and Transparencies. It is my firm and unshakable belief and conviction that the camera does not make a good or bad picture but the photographer does. Some of my best and favourite pictures have been taken by an Olympus Pen E which used to give me 72 half frames in a 35 mm roll. Though the best camera, in my experience and opinion, is the Rollieflex, lovingly called 'Rolly' by its fans, which I used for many many years before the Autos and Digis came and closeted the old beauties. A good picture is not made by the camera or equipment but by what is felt in the heart of the photographer and what his eyes can see and convey to the viewer. | |
