I leveled the horizon at the top. I think you can see now that the houses on the left side of the street are leaning forward and the ones on the right are leaning backward. I think the orginal photo was accurately level. :-) Reid

Gradient Tool

First, I did an Elements 5 "quick fix" to improve the bottom of the image. Then used the gradient tool foreground to transparent. The "reverse" box is checked and the blend mode set to "overlay". I selected the angle to correspond to the angle of the clouds. And in the gradient editor controlled where the effect stopped. Fairly easy actually.

I have copyet a little part off the latern to the right, revesed it, placed it than it looks like it is partly hidden behind somthing black. And of course one could have done the same with 2 other partly covered lantern as well.

This is the original image. It was taken almost directly into the sun. Since there are no shadows and no background, it seems almost flat. I think it creates an interesting effect worth trying again on other subjects.

Firstly I cropped to remove the dark area top right and the odd large fish on the bottom left. Then darkened and increased contrast as the people had some colour showing in their clothing. I made a top left drop shadow frame using the colour dropper to pick the colours from the image. Framed 3 further times in white and blue. Sharpened twice and uploaded Hope you like it Helen
