I used a black to white gradient layer set to overlay to produce this effect. It mimics an ND Grad filter by lightening the bottom half and darkening the top.

I cropped it slightly on the right and top to give it a different composition which is more to my liking, however that is just opinion! I desaturated the squirrel slightly because I thought the bright orange was un-natural... I may be wrong though. Then finally I selectively sharpened the head, body and tail. I left out the legs and hands though.
