| Intro: | Hello all, I'm really just a beginner and still have a lot to learn about photography. Nonetheless, I really want to improve this skill; firstly because I enjoy photography so much and secondly, because it is a wonderful complement to anthropology which is what I do for a living (well, I'm a PhD student in anthropology so let's say I will do that full time in a couple of years). My studies focus on marine resource management and indigenous ecological knowledge. I have the immense privilege to do my study and live on the beautiful island of Masig, a tear drop of sand in the middle of the coral sea (see Remote Area Nurse series if you want to have an idea of the place). I'm mostly into street photography. I like to capture the daily life of people to get a glimpse of their culture, their world view, their feelings. To catch the extraordinary within the mundane. Being in the strait, the seascape imposed itself as my main current photographic subject. I think we learn by doing and by confronting our work to others' view so any constructive critiques are welcome. - Annick | |
