| Intro: | Updated: December 2006: I am an Engineer by profession and an avid amateur photographer. I was Born in Sri Lanka and now for over 25 years have lived in Toronto, Canada. I have always been fascinated by photographs and cameras since I was a small kid who spent hours going through my dad’s photo albums. I was also inspired by breathtaking photos in National Geographic and Time-Life magazines. I acquired my first camera, an all mechanical Minolta SLR when I moved to Canada in early 80s. Then bought my Minolta X-700, which I still have. As a graduate student in Toronto, I could not afford to spent too much on films and processing, so gradually my interest in photography waned. Then came the digital cameras and my interest was rekindled. As a trial, I used a borrowed Olympus in 2004 during a holiday in Sri Lanka to get a test of digital cameras and then acquired my Casio EX-Z4 Exilim, which although not an SLR, gives me enormous flexibility as it is so portable and slim that I can carry it in my shirt pocket everywhere I go. I also use a HP Photosmart 720 from time to time. I have just bought a Canon SD600. TL has been a very nice forum to meet all kinds of people from all over the world that share my passion for photography. I am constantly amazed byte talent that is displayed here on a daily basis. One of the biggest disappointments at TL is the rating system which seems to be used by a lot of members to provide points to their preferred friends without too much regard to the quality of the post. You would see some very good pictures with very little comments and some very ordinary pictures with heaps of comments. To all my fellow TL members who comment on my pictures, I will not send individual thank-you notes to the comments unless there is something specific that I want to say. However I really appreciate your visits and comments. Usually I will try to view galleries of members who comment on my pictures, regardless of whether they were positive or negative.
