| Intro: | Operating on a bigger canvas that ranges from snow-clad mountain peaks to the restless waves of the sea, capturing the agony of poverty to the glitz and glamour, the gun-wielding mafia to terror-stricken voters. In nutshell my work encompasses subjects that include religion to fashion, crime to politics spread over vast areas along the banks of Ganga, Brahmaputra and Mahanadi.I feel privileged to work for INDIA TODAY, Asia’s leading newsmagazine, since 1998. The INDIA TODAY assignments include UP, Uttaranchal, Assam and Orissa. In Assam I travelled extensively during the Assembly elections and in Orissa I captured the changing face of Kalahandi, once synonymous with extreme poverty and exchange of babies with bread. If I climbed the tops of Trishul peaks of the Himalayas I captured the ancient Tehri town slowly but painfully meeting its watery grave. I combed the Chambal chasing and shooting the dacoits and their beautifully rustic-looking concubines while I framed the bubbling & bursting beauties and floating butter-flies on the ramps in Lucknow. I freezed the past and the present in my camera: the decaying of the city of Nawabs and rise of a trendy city there. The work goes on with the help of best of equipment that I possess. In between I worked with HINDUSTAN TIMES [1997-1999], did assignments for TIME newsmagazine and contributed to BBC Online news magazine. | |
