In Photoshop:

1. I reduced shadows and highlights with Image/Adjustment/Shadow-highlight.

2. I reduced brightness with Image/Adjustment/Levels.

3. I reduced brightness and increased contrast with Image/Adjustment/Brightness-contrast.

Hi Mihaela
I never thought of barrel distortion, but looking closer now I see that is the problem.

All I've done here is even up the left horizon, and not worried about the angle of the land in the centre BG and the wharf on the right.

I also have had this distortion on some of my images and I'm not sure what you can do about it. Maybe someone has a PP software that will straighten it for you. Try looking up "Barrel Distortion" on Google or similar.
