(530) [2009-11-16 15:06:50] [1] [+] | Hi Michel,
I tried to get a similar effect like in the ws of Alain but only with blending. Here is what I did:
- to lab mode
- separate image from the frame by using guides, selection and layer via cut, turn off frame layer
Create mask... I'm too lazy for brushing :)
- duplicate the b channel and select it only
- apply the copy of the b channel to itself on overlay blend using "image -> apply image": do this 6 times
- apply gaussian blur (radius 3 to 5, I did 5) to the copy of the b channel using "filter -> gaussina blur"
Add blue tint sung curves adjustment layer
- select the lab composite and add a curves adjustment layer
- leave L and a untouched, but change the b curve to add blue tint (see screenshot in second ws entry, STEP1). By adjusting the b curve the blue tint can be increased or reduced
- select the layer mask of the curves adjustment layer
- restrict the effect of the blue tint with image -> apply image: channel b copy, invert, blending: normal (see screenshot in second ws entry, STEP2).
Push the blue tint into the background of the image (midtones and light parts)
- select the curves adjustment layer and then layer -> layer style -> blending options
- blend if for Lightness and underlying layer (see screenshot in second ws entry, STEP 3). By adjusting the sliders of the underlying layer the blue tint can be "pushed" into various parts of the image
- turn frame layer on again and save for web&devices

Attila |

 Layer masks | Athila
(1779) [2009-11-15 20:46:55] [1] [+] | I used layer mask technic to introduce coolness in the top part of the image. I tried to keep some trees unaffected at close distance to amplified the feeling of depth. Check my other WS to see layer mask pattern.
With a blue tint like this, it reminds me some scene in the movie "Sleepy Hollow" with Johnny Deep.

 Layer mask | Athila
(1779) [2009-11-12 19:34:05] [1] | With layer mask I adjusted color of the pavement and I slightly intensify the colors in the trees. Not much, just for the fun of playing with PP adjustment technics.

 Layer mask technic | Athila
(1779) [2009-10-29 19:04:08] [2] | Hi Attila,
As requested here are some details of the technic used. I did not record these details when I made the first WS, so I had to repeat the procedure, but only did it partly.
1- I made a layer copy of the background.
2- I made a rectangle selection of only the image, not the frame.
3- From that layer copy selection I choose "create or new fill adjustment layer"
4- I made a color balance adjustment of the image so the grass would look greener (+60 G and +10 Y).
5- Since all image including barn, sky and clouds got green I had to neutralize the color balance on these by painting in black the adjustment layer the unaffected part. (see layer channel window on right of acutal image).
Once this is done I just flatten the image.
I will repeat this whole process on différent parts of the image to get each part of the image adjusted to my taste. For example, I could repeat the process to darken the grass on a second adjustment, by using "light and contrast" instead of color balance. For a third process I would lighten the barns. Fourth I would repeat the warm the folliage, and so on until I get the desired effect.
But be carefull, sometimes we do too much and then it's getting worst.
I hope I was clear enough, if not don't hesitate to ask more info.

Sepia conversion with CS3 | Athila
(1779) [2009-10-27 19:27:24] [2] | | I just use CS3 to convert it to B&W and then applied a tint to it. CS3 offer many option to control contrast with cursors. And you can add filter to intensify the brightness of some colors. |

Snow, cold is often associated to blue tone.
