| Intro: | Photography is a great hobby. The more you practice the better you get, providing you learn from mistakes. There have been some points in my photography experience that have changed the quality of my shots. The first big change for me was reading Scott Kelby's book "Digital Photography". Kelby promised that his book would turn an amateur photographer into a semi professional one...I think he was totally honest and his book indeed made me infinately better than I was before. Another turning point for me was on this site where I got great information about black and white conversions. In the past few weeks another big change came when I began experimenting with light. I have been using two flash units combined with ambient light and realized that my auto focus worked much better and my shots became sharper. In the next week or so I will make another big change. One of my friends is helping me build studio lighting which will be bright enough and soft enough to light the subject without ambient light making the scene totally controllable. As soon as I make the light boxes I will post the dimensions and parts we used. I am really pleased that more and more people on the site are shooting portraits. Good luck and keep practicing! |
