Hi Sue,

I really like the composition of your picture, and I just wanted to try if my idea on the grass would work. I didn't do much, only:
* selected everything but the sky
* added levels layer, in which I just adjusted the master levels a bit to make the shed and the grass somewhat lighter.
I know there are imperfections at the grass/sky border but I just wanted to test it and not spend hours on making the perfect selection ;-).

I hope you like it, though!

Kind regards,
Annelies

I selected all the areas outside the two girls using Quick Mask and painting the mask on, beginning with a large hard brush, then gradually reducing the brush size while I increased the magnification (so I could see the edges). Then I left Quick Mask, inverted the selection, and applied a Lens Blur filter (Photoshop). I redid the outer frames because I messed them up with the Lens Blur. I selected the two framed areas separately, and applied level adjustments to lighten one and darken the other.

Converted to b&w with channel mixer, approx 20 52 26 -10 for rgb and contrast. Then adjusted sky with curves for contrast and to bring out the clouds. Then adjusted the grass and wood to lighten them and give them contrast. Gives a slightly different mood in b&w than color.

Hello Sue! Hope you don't mind changing your pic. I like your original photo but it was a little darker in my humble opinion. Then I decided to play with it with some PS work. I brightened and enhanced contrast, then used smart blur to soften it. After that, I cropped it a little bit, resized to 800 px width and put a frame.

Regards ;-))

please forget about the sky...

If it was possible to move to your left, you could obtain this effect, as if the collapsed house become food for the sheeps.

n fact, It is a suggestion to make a composition without centering too much your subject. This way it is more dynamic.

Enjoy?
