The low point of view was because we were sitting in an old 16-foot clinker-built rowing boat which had the luxury of a tiny little 4 h.p. engine. The clarity of the air can be seen because the little island staight ahead wasn't far off and was only about 10 or 20 feet high at the most: the mountain behind it was about 6,000 feet high, so a lot farther away than it looks!
