Tjutjut, we sure have a rich history together, don't we?
You on your end... and we on this end.
Our town, Hoorn, really has a rich history on the VOC time, because at that time Hoorn was a major harbor and was (and still is) situated just about 35km north of Amsterdam.
Lots of the old buildings in our town remind still of those days...
I absolutely love to dwell in the streets and in our harbor looking at all that beauty.
In spite of all of that I must say that I'm not really very proud of what the Dutch did in those days, especially our contribution in the slave market!
Sad thing is, that through the trade in countries such as Malaysia and through slave trading Holland had the chance to become what it is now: A rich and wealthy community!
Sometimes that makes me feel ashamed....
So... A coin always has two sides eh?
Thanks!
