Thank you Bill for the advices.
What a wonderful job you have done to my photo. Looking at it I can feel the essence of the bud comes alive. I didn't do anything to the original as I feel it would be best to share it as it is so I would know how I fare. I am still at the stage where I thought that the subject have to be in the center. How wrong I am. I am really lost for words how a small alteration can do to a photo. You really open up my eyes. Thank you.
Now as I am new here what should I do with the photo in the workshop? I want to keep it and rename it "Spiritual Uplifting"

sincerely,
stanleytham

Hi Stanley

I am happy that you like the workhsop version, in fact, it is you who took the original photo and I merely change minor changes without too much heavy-processing to maintain your original flavor.

I joined TL only 2 months ago, started photography on Aug31 this year, so I am yet to learn more depth about the subject. It is my pleasure that we can share it simultaneously.

I feel happy that you have great courage to post a raw photo straight off your lens after resize. That is a great thing because you will look for critique and comments and immediately will know strength or weakness of the shot.

Essentially it is quite easy for me to do the workshop because your photo is simple and good quality. I am glad that the result has become what you

You retain full copyright of the edited photo in the workshop and you have sole right to rename it. All original photos and workshop versions are your property. I merely edited it.

For your enthusiasm, I now append these links for you to use as a guide for starting, it is very useful for me.

I hope after reading this, your next post will be better to get your off the ground. TFS

p/s I read your intro, nice gift of S5, pretty wife and a son, and I happen to like quiet Ipoh when passing through, it has great food. Happy for you, dude.

Hi Stanley,

I only wish that the reflected bud is not clipped off its tip (as per your original version), otherwise it can be VERY nice image.

However, I am happy that your 1st TL post has been successful and of good quality.

TFS (thanks for sharing), regards
Bill

Cool trekks you are a real cool dude. Thanks a million for the links.
Just wondering, where do you hang out before TL?
Even though you only did a minor changes but the feeling is totally different. A very spiritual feeling and special too. Thank you.
I am going to bookmark all the links so I can access it where ever I go.
This coming Sunday I will be going around to scoop for beauty and hope I can post something good.

Best wishes
stanleytham

p/s I really love Ipoh, with the mountain surrounding us. I am a nature guy.

Hi Stanley

Where I hang out?
Before TL?....I am not into photography yet. Once a while using Nokia handphone camera to snap.

July29, 2007 - trekked up Mt Kinabalu 4095m above sea level, greatly disappointed with Nokia and Fujifilm compact (year 2002 model!). That got the trekks thinking, and bought SLR Nikon D80 August26, 2007.

1st shoot Aug31. Joined TL Sept29, but Mr ADAM emailed password only on Oct1. There goes when I started TL.

trekks' 1st post on TL, Oct1, titled Nipah Forest. Of course Mr ADAM forgot he is not in Malaysia, so his date is Sept30!

Stanleytham
trekks is happy to say he can be of help to you for your 1st post, he only wish he could get the same feeling on his 1st post!

trekks also notes stanley 2nd post is a dragon again at center!...(scratch head, what to do?) - L8R

trekks says that stanley dude you have the right mood for photography and go for it.

FYI, trekks did go to library for 3 straight days in Nov, reading up great books on digital photography by great masters. That helps tremendously.

In Sept, trekks sneaked into a construction site and walked up 18 floors of stairs just to find a spot to shoot sunsets. But that was bad, all the shots could not be used, poor standard.

Some photographers call it 'passion' - I can agree to it.

Seriously, I find some photographers here are passionately helping others on skills and knowledge. But still very few. If only many of them, then we can be quick in our path to good photography.

In fact, I myself have shot lily but I am not happy with it. My preference will be early morning with moring flow light and dew drops on it, shoot a lily in still water with perfect reflections. I found golf courses may be a good spot for shooting!

For you lily, I am happy you find it useful. If it inspires you, all the better and I can feel proud of it in a way, such that your future photos will see great improvements.

Reading guidebooks online helps a lot. Reading other photos also help as much. I sometimes read www.pbase.com although they tend to be heavy-PP work.

I found other great photo-sites but forgot to bookmark them, cannot remember the links, so sadly lost them (some couple in Raleigh, NC, USA manned the site). Another great site of different style and design, but I also forgot its link (really sad to lost them, they are so good photo sites)

I am training photography so that by March2008 at my next trekk up Mt Kinabalu summit again, I must have some good shots to bring back. 3 months to do it.

In your case, small coastal towns like Setiawan may be a good place? Gold courses are not bad.

If you need any of my help, just shout.

TFS, cheers
trekks/Bill

Going thru your photos I don't believe you started out two months ago. It really awesome. Thanks a million for the links. Now I know what is the "Rule of Thirds". After going thru the article or rather lesson, I tried the experiments on my lousy photo collections and it does make wonder. Even when I was reading magazine my mind will automatically look for the "Rule of Third" on the photos published and indeed it does exist. It really open up my mind. I am so exited to try on this new found knowledge I can wait until Sunday. Hope I can show you something by then. Now come to think of it even when I was driving my eyes involuntary will look out for something worth taking.
The links are really useful. Not only reading increase our knowledge, it also open up our inner mind to view things in a different perspective. Just a simple 'Rule of Third' change my view completely. If only life is that simple....peace on Earth.
Can't wait for your trekk up Mt. Kinabalu summit. I know you will bring the whole summit back with breathtaking results. 3 months ain't far away. I will patience-ly wait for the great day to arrive. In the mean time be satisfy with Nipah Forest and rest of all your Great Shots.
Once again thanks a lot for your great help. Hope you don't mind me bugging you all the time.

Have Fun
stanleytham
