If I remember correctly the camera was in manual mode. However the camera will still try to meter and give a suggestion for the right exposure. I can choose from spot, center and matrix. Matrix being the most common one to use where over 1000 points on the image are used to determine the exposure. Pattern is the same as matrix metering.
