hello, well the process is quite simple, is called HDR, what you do is, takign several pictures with diferent exposition values adn hen use a special software to blend them together (the most popular ones are photomatix and dynamic photo hdr) I use dynamic photo, a free sample version actually. once the image has beeen strned int o a .HDR file, you can tone map it and is in that process where you can hange a lot of fvalues and the look of it.. here check my HDR gallery so you can see some more:
