Hi Dan,
Yes, the lighting was getting close to mid-day by the time I arrived at this point on the trails. Plus, this rock was facing south, getting a full hit of sun. The layers facing me were sheered off pretty much as they show here, with the perpendicular cracks going into the rock, if that makes sense to go with how the image turned out.
