I did not use HDR ... just selective adjustments to areas... I haven't tried HDR technique yet. However, it helps if you can visualize the compo you'll be creating because you can adjust your settings accordingly when you are taking the shot. In this particular scene, I saw the B&W potential of the shot but needed some elements to create interest due to lack of color. I decided that the clouds and rail would be my point of interest thus my settings were more bias to these elements. I also took shots aimed to capture the sunrise colors ... I'll post them later in TE.
