Yes, a folly is a bit of 'foolishness', an ornamental building with no particular use at all!
I think that the rich people just built them to show off how much money they had;it was a good talking point,and a place to visit when they were taking the air in the extensive grounds of their homes.
You must visit England one day, there are some lovely mansions and stately homes to see.
No, there was no danger of falling rocks, I didn't need a hard hat!
