Of course it is real, so are the rubies etc. In those days, they didn't bother with fakes. Bulletproof glass, alarms, you name it. There are huge rooms full of such treasures. Nothing compared with the Holy Roman Empire treasures in the Vienna Hofburg. That one is the single most valuable collection in the world. Got tons of pics from there also. Shooting through glass: I found you put your lens right flat up against the glass works best (and just hope The distance is not too close to the object for your lens to handle).
