First, thank you for visiting me and your appreciation of this photo .I am glad to know that another of our TL community members will go to this wonderful country this year and hopefully for you , get the best of weather to shoot. Such s photogenic place where opportunities will jump at you ! Tripod , neutral density filters are good items to take along , if you are lucky enough to see the sun disc with much luck even a couple hours a day in average on any day then a polarizer may be handy . In August, rain is on the menu perhaps everyday but rest assured this will never hinder you from taking your precious shots .You 'll get your pictures however , patience and luck are your best assets if you have them , lol ! There were moments during my trip when i had to open the passenger window rapidly and shoot through the opening , the rain just wouldn't let up ! My best advice to you Karin is not photography-related , only keep this in mind : Iceland is a place you need to digest slowly , roads are for the most part, away from the paved ( well almost.. ) ring road no 1, quite rough and slow-going and if you have access to a car or better a 4x4 your driving will be slow anyway and if anything for the better to admire the landscape ,,,, naturally if the weather cooperates you'll be in for some great photos, in any case Iceland is obviously not a place you want to rush around anyway Karin . Another thing that is worth stressing : Be on the lookout for eventual clearings in the clouds when the sun appears to be about to poke through , countless times did i come to a stop to enjoy the spectacle and for some pictures of course ,,,, just fabulous ! One last note: Watch out for rainbows , they are truly stunning and they do occur almost everyday , turn around once in a while as there might be one behind you ! Got dozens of rainbow pics from that trip...
I would not do anything different than what i did , frankly the weather is the most hazardous element and as a traveler you are most subjugated to it so i was well aware of this fact and prepared to accept it as i went along and YES there were great and not so great moments , simply put it is just the way of life around here , the Icelanders seem to have adapted so well to it !

How long will you be there for?
Thanks,
Carol
