Hi Eric!
As I often say: feel free to (dis)agree. ;o) That's the richess of TrekLens: a comparison between different visions.
I agree with you that the background of the original photo was nice. What "bothered" me, however, was that the photo looked too horizontal given the fact that the bottom part of the model (i.e. under her knees) had been cropped. It was a matter of proportion, in my opinion. And sometimes, you have to kill your darlings: in this case the interesting background.
As to my photos, thanks for your compliment, but I still belief much is in the eye of the beholder. I just know my amateur photography improved thanks to TrekLens, but I also am conscient that I didn't yet reach perfection. Said this, I prefer a less perfect photo with "soul" to a perfect but cold juxtapostion of pixels... And I do admire creative portrait photos like this "golden heart". A genre I'd like to develop...
