Hello Joe,
You wrote an interesting critique and did an interesting workshop on this photo, but I’m afraid I have to disagree. At least to some extent. You are right that there is much cyan and red in this picture, but for having stayed (and hiked) several times in that area (and in this particular village), I can tell you that Marine’s photo is closer to reality than your workshop. I’ve always been amazed by the particular reddish hue in the landscape (especially in the soil) over there, which makes it so different from other, nearby areas. I'd even say that Marine already enhanced saturation a little too much (but that impression might be due to my screen).
Whereas your workshop offers us a nice photograph, I think it rather evokes the atmosphere of other areas (the “green” countryside of Wales, for example, though I must humbly admit I’ve never been there ;o)). I remember having commented on a TL-photo showing a Patagonian landscape, saying I thought the colours were overdone. The photographer replied that the colours were real, but seemed to understand that they could look odd for people who had never been in Patagonia.
Anyway, I like your way of critiquing and analysing this photo, as it perfectly fits with the spirit of TrekLens, in my opinion.
Kind regards,
