Yes using the fish-eye makes skateboard photography more artistic and trick oriented.
There was time when I tried to make trick shots, but when I was close to the skater something was left out of the pic, otherwise I was too far to have an interesting photo..
Now I'm getting satisfied :) though I still got lot to learn. :)
