I took this shot at the Broadwater, Southport, Gold Coast. I liked the delicate branches of the trees with their needle-like leaves and the way the trees were positioned allowing you to peek through at the sandbank in the background.

I felt that a vertical format would work better in this photo, accentuating the height of the trees "reaching" into the sky, so cropped out most of the image, leaving the tree just left of center. I kept the subject at the left (rule of thirds), and allowed the shape of the tree to "flow" downward from the upper left to lower right. Also boosted saturation to 15%.
