(4362) | This one is for my friends Paul (OeilMagique) and Robert (Perryhooter) both big fans of antique cars!
In July 17 of 1912 Dodge Brothers Inc. was formed by John Francis Dodge and his brother Horace Elgin, and begin working on bringing out the Dodge Brothers car. By November 14, the First Dodge Brothers car rolls off the line. When asked why the Dodge Brothers wanted to build their own car, John Dodge replied, "Just think of all the Ford owners who will someday want an automobile." By 1910 the Dodge brothers business had increased enough so that they had to build a new plant in Hamtramck, MI .
On July 31 1928 Walter P. Chrysler purchases Dodge Brothers Inc., manufacturers of Dodge Brothers cars and trucks, and Graham Brothers trucks. Main plants and forge facilities in Hamtramck, MI. Walter P. Chrysler became president of Dodge Brothers. 1935 saw Chrysler set up different divisions. Plymouth Motor Corporation became Plymouth Division, Dodge Brothers Corporation became Dodge Division, DeSoto Motor Corporation became DeSoto Division and Chrysler Motor Corporation became Chrysler Sales Division. That was the beginning of what we now know as the Chrysler Corporation.
This is a 1947 Dodge sedan it belongs to my neighbor down the street. It's the 'FluidDrive' model it has the flathead 6 engine and 3-speed transmission. Dodge All-Fluid Drive provides the entirely fluid transfer of engine power to the drive line of your car. It thus affords a life preserving cushion for all vital mechanical parts of engine and power line, protecting them from shock and strain. For the driver, All-Fluid Drive continues to mean new extremes of comfort, safety, and control. Clutching and shifting have been greatly reduced and, when shifting is required, for special occasions, it is done silently with the move of a finger.
I have encluded a photo of the entire car sitting in front of his home in the workshop. Ain't she sweet!!!
Thanks for the visit !
