 Jellyfish (28) John_F_Kennedy
(10530) | Golden Mastigias Jellyfish - Marine Lakes, which contain salt water, were formed in the Rock Islands, Palau, when sea & land level changed. Estimated to be between 9,000 and 12,000 years old, each has evolved uniquely due to differences in shape, depth, age, distance from the ocean. The organism segregated inside the marine lake were effekted by changes in salinity, tempurature, sediment, light and oxygen, and lack of predators. The Golden Mastiggias Jellyfish has been isolated in Jellyfish Lake for thousands of years with only predator, an anemone called Entacmaea medusivora. This Jellyfish has traded its stinging ability for a unique migration pattern that reduces its chance of getting caught and eaten! (taken from brochure Palau International Coral Reef Center)
