Schoolhouse (1) cdrixon (89) | The only remaining speck of French-owned territory in North America, the tiny islands of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon are home to 6000 French citizens who, despite the thousands of kilometres that separate them from mainland Europe, speak, eat, drink, and live like any other person from ''la métropole''. The currency is the Euro, boulangeries are abundant and, yes, there really are short, round men who wear barets.
This photo of an abandoned schoolhouse was taken on Ile aux Marins (''Island of the Fisherman'') located just off the coast of Saint-Pierre. |
