Queen Mary 2...in Auckland. (25)

This morning Pam (Coasties) and I set off very early (5am), to welcome Queen Mary 2 into Auckland...along with half of Auckland I might add... We decided to go to Cheltenham Beach on Aucklands North Shore, where we expertly (lol) took nite/early morning shots using our tripods... and then drove on further to Devonport into the traffic Jam... to see this massive beauty steam up our Waitemata Harbour and Dock at Jellico Wharf in Auckland city.

Unfortunatly she is TOO big to fit into our overseas passenger terminal, hence here she is docked at a CONTAINER terminal (much to the disgust I would imagine of the onboard passengers that have paid a pretty price to cruise on her.)

She is the BIGGEST vessel to come into our Waitemata Harbour in Auckland.

Some info on Queen Mary 2:

Cunard Line has announced that New Zealand-born Captain Christopher Rynd will be at the helm of the magnificent Queen Mary 2 when she arrives in Auckland on her history-making inaugural visit on February 17, 2007. He will take command of Queen Mary 2 when she departs Fort Lauderdale on her maiden world voyage on January 10, 2007.

The 151,400-ton ocean liner will be the largest cruise ship ever to visit New Zealand when she arrives in Auckland 37 days later on Saturday, February 17. Thousands of Aucklanders are expected to turn out to watch Queen Mary 2’s arrival, while many more are expected to flock to the waterfront that evening to enjoy a fireworks display at 10.20pm, coinciding with her departure. Details of the timing of Queen Mary 2’s visit, the fireworks and vantage points are also listed on the new website, along with background information and images of the liner.

Launched in 2004, Queen Mary 2 boasts 10 restaurants, five pools, the biggest ballroom at sea and the first planetarium at sea. New Zealanders keen to follow Captain Rynd on the maiden world voyage can enjoy the cruisecam available on Cunard’s new website www.queenmary2.co.nz aterfront that evening to enjoy a fireworks
