Highlighting the subject & defusing background:
In this workshop I want to highlight the flower just a bit and defuse the background. The reason is that it seem to be just a bit too busy of a beackground that may hinder a good view.
Open in photoshop
Left click on the layer & choose 'Duplicate layer'
Now we have two layers.
On the top layer run a filter to give it a gray or monocrom color.
Now enlarge the image to be able to view all the pixels clearly.
Use erase tool, adjusting the size of the brush and run carefully, erasing the grays of the top layer only on the flower, its leaves and stems so as to be able to see the colors from the second layer.
Now go back to the second layer after you are satisfied, and use a blur filter to make it a nice dof.
You may even darken or lighten a bit so as to seperate nicelly the colors of the first layer.
Flaten the image and save for TL.
Note: I also sharpened the flawer a bit using 'Unsharpen Mask, and gave a boarder and cropped it a little tighter.
