When I named this photo "Red and Yellow" it brought back memories of being taught as a kid how to distinguish the poisoness Coral Snake from the harmless Milk Snake. The Coral Snake has bands of red, yellow and black in that order while the Milk Snake has bands of red, black and white. The Coral Snake, a member of the cobra family, is one of only 4 types of poisoness snakes in the Texas Gulf Coast area. The other three(Rattlesnake, Copperhead and Cottonmouth Water Moccasin) are all pit vipers and easily distinguished by their triangular head. The Milk Snake is a member of the King Snake family and quite benificial to man so it is a very wrong to kill one thinking it is poisoness. I have caught King Snakes and given them to friends as house warming gifts when they purchase a new home. The King Snake will rid the area surrounding your house of rats, mice and poisoness snakes. It kills other snakes thus the name King Snake. So if you have rats, mice or poisoness snakes around your house and don't have access to a Mongoose, get a King Snake ;). It is such a travesty that many beneficial snakes are killed every year because people fear them. As photographers who are often taking pictures in the wild we should all learn how to identify the poisoness and non-poisoness snakes in our area. When you know that a snake is non-poisoness and of no threat you will look at it in a different way, as another colorful and beautiful subject to photograph. |

| Good morning, I have done a quick workshop on your lovely capture. I felt it did not quite match the title as the red and yellow were not as prominent in the image as they could be. I cropped away some of the leaves and part of the base of the image. I lifted the colour a little to warm the image and bring the flowers forward. I have left enough background to show the DOF. I also adjusted the curves just a touch to bring out the raindrops on the image. I also felt it important to keep the buds at the top in view as we can see how the plant growns. lastly I resized.
