 Nordvest Fjord (23) tyro
(3929) | A picture from my archives - my archives consist of a cardboard box in the loft!
I was on a university expedition to East Greenland in July, 1970 and travelled by boat with a friend up Nordvest Fjord, the longest fjord in the World, which runs in a north-westerly direction into the heart of Greenland, itself the largest of the World's islands.
This picture was taken after passing Nordost Bugt: the mountains on either side of the fjord at this point rise to over 7,500 feet.
I was impressed by the clarity of the air in East Greenland - because of lack of air pollution, one does not appreciate distance quite the same: the small island in the foreground is perhaps only a few hundred yards away whereas the mountains in the background are much more distant and probably of the order of 5,000 or 6,000 feet high.
I hope you like this one - it brings back lovely memories for me. Incidentally, I have posted a couple of pictures of this place on TrekEarth and TrekNature, if you want a look. |
