punwit (150) | I heard this train long before it appeared out of the mist near Ottawa, Kansas. One note for would be train photographers, even if you are prepared for the rush of air and the clack of the rails I'm not sure you can steel yourself against the whistle if it happens to blow as the train thunders past. I about jumped out of my skin when that shrill lound whistle blew, course I was already a bit skittish being that near however many tons of steel and massive momentum as it rumbled by.
