Sempervivum

This is a hybrid Sempervivum, also known as Houseleeks. Most species are native to Europe. Some have smooth leaves like this one. Others are covered with hairs. Houseleeks rarely grow more than 8-10cms high, but they can end up looking like carpets of rosettes which can spread 30-50 cms.

These plants are best grown in cool to cold climates. They grow best in the open in full sun. They are easily grown by division of offsets/ pups taken in spring and summer. Although the rosettes may die off after flowering, many offsets / pups have usually been formed by this time and will continue to grow. These can be replanted elsewhere.
