 Dad (130) rewshearer
(20833) | On a two-day visit to my home town last month, some precious time with my parents.
Setting up to do some portraits of my sister, her partner and child, I took some practice shots with my father.
To the rest of the world, just another face. To me ... well, you can imagine.

(20833) Crop Edited by:kbeall

| Hi Rew, I cropped this so that a vertical biscetor of the frame would drop through one of the subject's eyes, as was done instinctually by most of the great masters. After reading the book I mentioned in my critique, I try to do this to all my portraits. Hope you like it . . . |

| Just selectively sharpened the eyes very slightly. Nudged the overall contrast up as well. (Could be screen variations at work here.) |

(20833) BW conversion Edited by:Roly

| I did a very simple BW conversion because in my opinion BW is more suitable for character portraits. Especially here, the colors do not add too much to the picture. I am sure you can generate better tonal ranges using a more elaborate technique. I increased the contrast just a bit, sharpened the eyes and cropped to a square format because you have a lot of empty space in the original image. I think that the eyes stand out a bit better now. What do you think? |
