Desert Apparition (6)
tsumeb Gold Star Critiquer/Gold Star Workshop Editor/Gold Note Writer [C: 308 W: 58 N: 269] (2130)
On the road to your photo dreams, an apparition appears on a desert highway at sunset. Is it really there? Are you really in this place? We can all dream of a moment like this when the improbable becomes possible.

The sky is from Indian Wells, California, the terrain from Death Valley, the Indian maiden from Santa Fe and the photographer was at Disneyland.

I also posted a workshop which I think has better composition. Your thoughts?

And here the corresponding curves to bring out the colors in the desert's brown.

Hi David,

my intention with the workshop was to create a new subject for your compo: the desert sunset. Here is what I did:

- used your both compos to delete the persons

- switched to lab mode

- separated the sky with a "quick selection" to a separate layer (sky)

- applied a curves layer above the background layer but below the sky layer and set the curves layer blending mode to screen, opacity 100% (see the curves in the second ws upload). This was to bring out the various colors in the desert's brown and to make the desert lighter
- converted the background layer and its curves layer to a smart object
- strongly sharpened the background smart object by selecting only its l-channel with usm (500/0,3/1)

- sharpened the sky layer with usm (75/25/1)

- above the sky layer added a photo filter layer using the cooling filter (82) on 32% density

- added frame and caption

I hope you like it.

Best regards,
Attila

Now that I see it in the Trek lens Gallery, I wanted to try a different composition. I think this works better
