Although it's nearly Easter, this one makes me think of the old Thanksgiving and Christmas season song about going to grandmother's house. When I saw this partially frozen stream flowing toward the farm in the distance, I wanted to preserve the memory.
Technical note: This was taken at sunset, with some pleasing but tricky lighting. PP includes levels and color balance adjustments to bring it back to reality; also, one pass of the light-and-shadows sharpening plug-in for The Gimp and, after final sizing, one pass of USM.
With this post, I'm launching a new group theme titled "Impressions of Silo Country." I hope many of you will take part, and I look forward to seeing the results. |

Warming, Rotation, Less Sharpening

| Listening to your feedback, I'm trying this one again. Slower, more methodically. I did a temperature adjustment in PhotoSmart Express to bring the snow back to its white tone and the sky back to sunset colors. Next, I did one pass of The Gimp's Light-and-Shadows sharpening plug-in. I rotated the image -2.5° and scaled to 800 pixels. Then I did a final, very modest pass of USM. The exposure's still not quite perfect, but this seems much more accurate. |
