Silo - Over the River (7) jpinkham
(1169) | I'd have titled this "Over the River and Through the Woods" had there been room. Although it's nearly Easter, this one makes me think of the old Thanksgiving and Christmas season song about going to grandmother's house. When I saw this partially frozen stream flowing toward the farm in the distance, I wanted to preserve the memory.
Technical note: This was taken at sunset, with some pleasing but tricky lighting. PP includes levels and color balance adjustments to bring it back to reality; also, one pass of the light-and-shadows sharpening plug-in for The Gimp and, after final sizing, one pass of USM.
With this post, I'm launching a new group theme titled "Impressions of Silo Country." I hope many of you will take part, and I look forward to seeing the results. |

(1169) Warming, Rotation, Less Sharpening Edited by:jpinkham

| Listening to your feedback, I'm trying this one again. Slower, more methodically. I did a temperature adjustment in PhotoSmart Express to bring the snow back to its white tone and the sky back to sunset colors. Next, I did one pass of The Gimp's Light-and-Shadows sharpening plug-in. I rotated the image -2.5° and scaled to 800 pixels. Then I did a final, very modest pass of USM. The exposure's still not quite perfect, but this seems much more accurate. |
