The Abbey of Silvacane is most recent of the three cistercians abbeys of Provence, it is towards 1144 that the monastery was founded in a site then desolated and marshy. It is that place which gave its name to the monastery Silva Cana: forest of reeds. Just like its two sisters Thoronet (Var) and Sénanque (in Gordes) it offer an architecture in perfect harmony with the rules preached by St Benoit and the order of Cîteau: simple-austere, rigorous, functional and stripped of all the ornaments which can divert the monk of its prayer.

He gets clear thus a singular atmosphere, a total serenity, between shade and sun, within a framework bucolic and in calms absolute, far from crowd.

The beauty of the Abbey of Silvacane also results from the strength of volumes, of the harmony of the forms, the perfection of the equipment of the stones and the plays of light through rare openings.

Its sculptures are famous the best of the order cistercian, they remain however in the sober register of the plant and reduced to essence.

Since its repurchase by the State in 1846, the abbey of Silvacane is restored little by little by the architects of the historic buildings.
It accomodates each year some prestigious concerts of famous Festival of Piano of the Castling of Anthéron like those of Vocal Music with Silvacane and of the International Festival of String quartets of Luberon

There is a room in this abbey which sounds absolutly great ! (hugest reverb i've ever heard)
