I get the feeling Tiina has been unduly harsh on your picture. All I have done is a small tweak to remedy the flaws listed by her. The idea was to soften your features, blur the background and retain what were the highlights of the portrait. So first I duplicated the layer. Sharpen the new layer with USM at 200 and 1.5. Then used Gaussian blur @30%. Further. brought the opacity of layer to 50% and then with the help of history brush restored the portions I wished to highlight like beautiful eyes, your lips, folds of dress etc.
You have lovely features Edna and your picture surely has captured them quite effectively .
