"Dark and Moody Niagara" (26) shelbeesmom
(48390) | Get your apples and oranges out. I am posting photos that stretch me out of the box this week. You may not like them, but I love them. So at the risk of getting boo'd off the stage, I post them. Please be honest, you won't hurt my feelings!
This photo has been reworked over 10 times. I just could not delete it. There was something about it that I just loved. It really spoke to me of the mood I was in at this place. It was very difficult to get a shot here as the winds were very high, throwing mist all over Silke and I. There is a sadness here that I felt, I'm not sure where the feeling came from. A loneliness that just never went away. Maybe that so many come to see it, but few stay.
What I did with this is walk a fine line. There was alot of noise, but the lights were sharp. So what I did was add MORE noise. If you can't beat em, join em! I slowly found a level that suited the mood. Then I isolated the lights and added noise etc. I attempted as best I could to "balance" the photo. I had Shelby check it, and a few others. So this is my posting.
Have a great day!
Linda

Ok, an olde worlde oil painting effect, and here's how it's done...
1. find a textured surface that can give you that oil painting or peeling effect you sometimes get on old oil paintings - take a picture - it's better if it's monotone (B&W) - perhaps an old wooden garden gate/door (that's what I've used here.
2. copy the textured picture as a second layer on top of your picture of Niagra Falls at night.
3. Centre the textured pitcure, expand, contract, transform, etc to get the size right
4. Select 'overlay' to allow the original Niagra picture to show through the textured image.
5. Once you are happy you can adjust the opacity of the textured image to change the amount it shows through the Niagra picture.
That's about it - easy. Give it a try.
