While on vacation recently, a friend and I traveled the Big Sur coast of California for two days (not long enough!), enjoying the scenic drive and discovering coastal access points we had not known about before. This shot was taken south of Point Lobos at a roadside pullout where there are paths out to the edges of the cliffs, apparently worn by crazy people who have no fear of falling off the edges:)

Unfortunately, the sun was in front of me here, bleaching out the sky of course, and giving me exposure challenges to struggle with. I ended up trying an HDR for the first time (or perhaps a "faux" HDR, since I started with only one image). It helped the sky a bit and gave me a better overall result. Still not what I saw in my mind's eye, but I like the rugged shoreline and afternoon light on the craggy rocks.

PP: created four separate images with different exposure values in Camera Raw, used CS3's HDR function to combine the exposures for better sky and color depth, added border, resized, sharpened, jpegged.

Used Nixon's Capture NX nic control point to saturate the color of the sky - not sure i like the final result the sky was so even that the color looks contrived. Ah nothing ventured ....
