(11292) | Old men next to the wall that encircles the village of “San Gimignano”, near Florence (Italy), waiting for the tourists that invade the city in successive and uninterrupted waves.
«San Gimignano» is a charming hill town of 7000 inhabitants, which has preserved its medieval appearance more completely than any other town in Tuscany.
The town is famous for its numerous towers which make it conspicuous from a great distance and provide one of the most remarkable sights in Italy. It is possible to walk along the 13C walls from which there are fine views of the rich agricultural farm land which surrounds the town.
Tells the history that the characteristic towers of the town was where the rich families lived in; and the height of each one of these towers gave a public notice of the wealth of each one of these families. Witch means that the more high was the tower richest was the family who inhabited it.
