~ Chilean Red Lanterns ~

These unusual and very attractive, red, pendulous flowers belong to a shrub growing in the Hobart Botanic Gardens, Tasmania. The shrub is called the Chilean Lantern Bush (syn. Crinodendron hookerianum).

This evergreen plant may grow to a height of 8 metres and prefers a sunny to light shady position. The flowers are vibrant red lanterns followed by red seed heads, these contrast well against the rich green foliage of this plant.
