I took this from an old car grave out by the Auckland Airport, I had no idea of its existence until I saw a photo from Jack (jackal) on here. He kindly told me where it was located, so I decided to check it out when the weather was quite dreary and overcast.

Not too sure if I was even allowed to be on the property, but the gate had no padlock or anything so the owners obviously can’t mind too much :). At a guess, I’d say there are at least 40 pre-loved antiques just sitting there rusting. I saw more cars in the small paddock over the fence, so ended up jumping the rather dodgy and very wobbly fence and saw it sitting to the right hand side, next to an old house that looked like it was about to collapse.

The second paddock also contained old tractors and work trucks, and was the home to a couple of cows. I think this may be an old Chevrolet Ute (pick-up), although I couldn’t find a single badge/symbol on the entire car – the number plate search came back blank too as it would have been deregistered years ago.

The council have recently built a new ‘Park & Ride’ service across the road from this ‘grave’ and there were quite a few workers around on this day, but I discreetly made my way through the gate without anyone noticing.

If you’d like to check this place out for yourself, it is on Verissimo Drive which is off George Bolt Memorial Drive. I took quite a few shots while I was there, but this is one of my favourites as the paint was quite eye-catching and seems to have withstood the weather a lot better than some of the other cars sitting there.

3x exposures using AEB (1/80, 1/320, 1/20), merged together into an HDR using Photomatix Pro.

Thanks for viewing.

Couldn't resist doing further post processing on this one. Show and other interpretation. Darken tone in red and neutral, using selective color, open highlights, using level.
