hello my dear TL friends :-) well.. here i am with the first 'new' picture i've posted for many months... not an old photo re-thought and re-worked but a new photo taken with my new camera in my new home in my new town in my new country... it's a simple photo i know but very important for me as i've been feeling pretty chronically unsure of myself and my work and unable to feel really good and excited about taking pictures for quite some time so biting the bullit and posting something new even if i'm unsure about it is an important step :-)

i also thought of today as a hopeful relaunch for myself as it's 1 month exactly since my birthday which i had hoped to be a symbolic launch pad for my new life being only a few days after i arrived in italy, but ended up being pretty lonely and sad and do to problems with mail and not having a phone was spent with very little human contact and seems to have been a rather negative beginning to this new adventure which it's taking some time to shake off.. but i'm working on it!

thanks in great part to 2 special friends who, thanks to TL i was lucky enough to find and who have helped me so much since i arrived.. so this is dedicated to them! to Marco (marcocig) who brought Bodmin and i home from the airport and even made us spaghetti! and who's been such a sweetie since.. (and who said he wouldn't post another pic until i posted something 'happy'.. well, compared to my last post this must qualify! so.. the strike is over!! no excuses now ihih) and to Edie (our edie obviously..) who's a truly wonderful special woman (and cat crazy just like me!) who's helped me and Bodmin so very much and has become such a precious friend! mille grazie ed abbracci (e lecche da Bodmin) cari ^_^

as for the picture.. this is the beautiful chandeleir that hangs over the dining table in the lovely apartment i'm renting in Umbria.. i was just playing around and trying to get an interesting angle and contrast of lines with the window in the background and capture the shadow patterns on the ceiling..

then in post processing (no cropping, just resized) i pushed the levels a lot to create this autumnal high constrast tone and the strong grain, then selected a vertical section on the right and added a black and white gradient map, then selected another strip across the top and adjusted the curves and saturation to create this colour block effect.. i also made a all black and white version which i posted as a workshop

i really hope you like it and as ever, i'm sorry i cant be more active here and especially sorry that i cant reply to critiques and messages as much as i'd like.. this is partly for technical problems with my internet connection and email service which really doesnt like dial-up and partly (mostly) for exhaustion which makes writing very difficult for me... but please always know how much your comments and kind thoughts mean to me and are deeply appreciated.. :-)

big hugs,
Ayda
