just different try. In photoshop (version7) I duplicated background layer, set blending mode into 'soft light' and used Filter/stylize/find edges. At the top I edded adjustement layer 'chanel mixer' with set 'monohrome' and red=100%.
And at the top another adjustement layer with curves, and added two points in/out: 90/121, 197/168.

nothing extravagant : first I reduced the size, then I adjusted the levels to put more contrast and make the snow white; I used unsharp mask with gain at 88%, pixels at 0,4, and levels at 0; then I added a border
