Hi Rodney!
I can see you are in good hands. Zandra is a great mentor for me. And my muse too. She has amazing photos.
And Kit...he's a man of wisdom and it shows in his works too.
Anyway, I go for softness here.
My steps.
I first choose the eyes..we need a catchlight. Choose the pupils an dodge it (highlight 9%)
Then I used diffuse glow : glow amount 3%, clear 13%
I then clone out the the dark part on top.
I used dodge (midtones 9%) to make the face area brighter.
I then duplicated the layer, desturated the top layer. Adjusted opacity of top layer to 80 percent.
Add layer mask, brush out colored areas of the clothes, the face and the forehead
