Bonjour Catherine,

Lovely image of that butterfly and its perch! The colours of the butterfly's wing are superb. The details that you've captured are great. I love the slightly to one side POV. The dabs of colours in the nicely blurred BG cause my eyes to bounce around your photo and land on the butterfly again and again.

Ever since I became aware of the word "bokeh", I've struggled with exactly what it is. I've read a number of definitions. The one, which I've finally settled on, has been pieced together from a number of sources. It is the following: Soft-edged blurred background portions of a photo, which blend together nicely, and improve the overall aesthetic quality of an image. Going by that definition, I would say that your photo definitely shows very attractive bokeh.

Bev has pointed out that there is some noise in your photo. I have to agree with her. I use the demo version of Neat Image, which is free. I've found that it normally removes noise very well -- except for water scenes.

Amicalement,
John

Hi Janice,

Very attractive photo! I can almost smell the fragrance. Your garden must be quite beautiful, if those colourful flowers are an indication of what blooms there. Very crisp central image with soft focus surrounding. Nice balance with the blurred flowers below. TFS.

See you,
John

Bonjour Catherine,

What a vivid and beautiful macro! Your wonderful "frosted" image actually seems to glow. The colours and details are superb. I enjoyed it very much. I hope that you have a good Sunday as well.

Au revoir,
John

Hi Ron,

Very nice capture. Good combination of colours. Crisp focusing. I like the way that you're drawing attention to the flower with the long aspect ratio. TFS.

John

Hi Catherine,

What an elaborate presentation! It's very effective. A nice crisp image. Perhaps, it's a bit dark for my taste. But, it sure catches one's attention. I like the way that the flower jumps out of its plane. Very nice blend of colours. Very tasteful and thoughtful framing. TFS.

Regards,
John

Hi Lurdes,

Very subtle, well taken photo! The details and colours of the thistle are terrific. It's like a flower that has suddenly exploded right in front of you! Kind of like botanical fireworks. Very attractive composition. TFS.

John

Hi Werner,

Nice catch! I've never been able to get a good shot of one of those terns. You've taken it well as it scans the water for its dinner. Good colours and details. Well composed image. To my eyes, it looks like there's a little noise in the shot -- but, that can be hard to deal with sometimes. In any case, the shot is very attractive. TFS.

Regards,
John

Hi Julie,

So cute! Who can resist a Canada Goose family out for a swim? It's interesting that poppa goose is there also. Fantastic colours and superb details. I particularly like the eye contact that both parents are making. TFS.

John

Hi Catherine,

Excellent view of the light playing on that fountain. Great presentation of the charm of frozen water drops. Very well chosen low ISO to retain the highest quality. Did you happen to take a low shutter speed shot? I'm wondering how that scene would look with a speed of about 1/20 sec. TFS.

John

Hi Ron,

Very well taken shot. Colourful, sharp and well composed. It brought back memories for me, after I had a bad fall last December. I won't go into the details, but I stopped using a cane about a month ago. It's not great when something interferes with your mobility. TFS.

John
