The Namib Desert is one of the oldest and driest deserts in the world. The core area is a sea of sand, made up of mainly apricot-coloured dunes interspersed with dry pans .The best known of these is Sossusvlei , a dusty pan surrounded by 300-m dunes .The area around Sossusvlei is is the most accessible part of the 300-km long and nearly 150 km wide sand sea that covers 32.000 sq km of western Namibia and is reputedly to contain some of the world's highest and most picturesque sand dunes. This is one of them as seen from the dirt road running into the area. One of the best way to get a feel for the area is to climb one of the dunes and have a look around, hard going but spectacular views are what you get at the top....When you realise that this sandy sprawl extends 75 to 150 kms in all directions , you'll have some idea how vast it is !
Technically i removed scratches and noise in Neatimage as this is a print scanned from earlier days , as always i try hard to make it appear as realistic in tints and tones to the original ( which i keep in front of the screen during post-processing ) as possible , added a little contrast and sharpened after resizing ,frame and text .

Beautiful sharp lines in this photo!!
Beautiful sandy colours!
Its a good scan of your photo!

Hi Carol. Long time, no see:)
Great shot of the dunes .. the unspoiled sand really look like it could be a clay sculpture. Love all the lines and shadows and angles. Looks like a very desolate place, especially with that dead tree in the foreground. Nice old shot.

Olá, Carol!

Well composed and presented picture.
Beautiful dunes with nice colors and detail of that tree. Good POV and I really like the tones, Carol. Well done job. Congratulations and thanks for sharing, my friend.

Very lovely image, it jumped out at me. I am surprised that it has been scanned, the processing is very good. I would enhance the colors a little, but that is just a personal thing. I think your picture works well! Your note is also very informative. Well done!

A great composition too.

TFS and greetings from Netherlands,

Bonjour Carol.

Superbe composition. J'aime beaucoup les courbes de ces dunes et le contraste de leurs différentes teintes.

Hi Carol,
Very good result from your scan. Beautiful composition and great colors. TFS.
I think the tree really adds a lot to it.

Hola Carol,
maravillosa postal,
exquisito pov y selecto encuadre,
saludos amiga

How amazing... these sharp lines!!
I really think this is a very intreguing landscape and I would certainly love to see this for myself... one of the things high on my "places to visit" list!

I really like the colors here. Something different from what we usually get to see of the Namib Desert, but oh so recognizable!

Hi Carol, an excellet shot of these Namibian dunes from an excellent POV with nice composition.
TFS and cheers,

ciao Carol..
numb desert is one of the most fashinating place..
thanks for this sight.. compo is simply but really effective!
excellent capture! thanks

Allo Carol....
Je ne peux faire autrement que d'avoir le goût de m'y retrouver avec une photo si invitante......
Question d'aller y laisser ma trace...éphémère......
Bravo j'adore....

Nice view of the sweeping dunes of the Namib... This has been on my hit list for a long time.. The compo is great with the lonesome tree at bottom left and the quality considering it's coming from a scan is good..

Nice photo.

bonsoir Carol,
WOW! Très impressionnant point de vue sur cette dune! L'angle est bien étudié pour mettre en valeur l'acuité de ses arêtes et la beauté de ses volumes. Et cet arbre si petit devant ce mastodonte, quel contraste!
Bravo! Annie

Hi Carol
great shot, its amazing how the edges are so sharp

Textbook perfect composition. Great tones and textures, beautifully metered.
Great shot

Hi Carol,

I don't know if it is work, or your great sense of adventure, but I really enjoy your travel photos. This one is terrific! I love the shadows, the blue sky... I climbed a dune at the coast of North Carolina (a lot of people hang glide from it) and It is EXHAUSTING!!! :)

Nice travel shot Carol... Lisa

Hi Carol,
Nice perpective and beautiful tone colors of the sand,
Beautiful landscape of the Namib dunes, well composed and composed,,
very well done.

Hi Carol.
You are well traveled and this stunning image with the leafless tree from Namibia is smooth with sharp fine lines. Rather different shape and texture from the Middle East.
Very well managed light and shadow giving out pleasing graphism in the frame.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice day.
Kind regards,
