[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Tapovan is the base camp for a number of peaks in the Gangotri glacier region namely Shivling, Kedar Dome, Kedarnath, Kirthi Stambh and Bharti Kunta.

Tapovan is a very common trek route and thousands of people visit it every year. It is at an altitude of around 4500+m.

The peaks in view are Shivling and Meru. All the peaks are in the 6300-6700m region. Shivling looks like Matterhorn but is much tougher to climb, the base camp is higher than the summit of Matterhorn. It is a very technical peak. Meru, well, it is a dream. There have been more people on the summit of Everest in one single day than the number of people that have stood on top of these peaks. 147 people have summited Everest in a single day!!!!! When it comes to mountains size does not matter.

There are 3 summits of Meru namely Meru North, Meru West and Meru Fin. There has been only one successful summit on Meru Fin. The most attempted peak of the Meru group is the Meru North. A lot of attempts have been made to climb them along the face (please see my other photograph of Meru) but none have been successful till now. Climbing a vertical rock face 1500+m from 4500m is not a joke. In the process a lot of people have lost their lives.

The exposure is around 15 minutes at f8.

The altitudes are

Shivling 6543 Mts
Meru North 6450 Mts
Meru west 6361 Mts
Meru Fin a.k.a MEru south 6660 Mts

Hi Rajib,

Wow!! Amazing capture. I cannot believe that, it is moon light. But, after reading your note, the exposure time (I guess, it should be 15 seconds, not minutes) I can understand. It is really wonderful. Nice colors and POV. TFS.

Kiran.
