[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
While waiting for my Vietnam Visa at the outside of the Embassy, I had a couple idle hours which I used to practice the 'Panning Technique'.

Hundreds of scooters and motorbikes passed and passed non stop and the daylight was bright, so it was the perfect spot to shoot and practice.

I tried many different settings in Manual Mode, and found out that a low speed (1/80s) was the formula, as the scooters did not go too fast and my distance to them was long enough so I could keep them in my camera's eye all the time. I used FL-120mm, ISO-200 and a close aperture (f/20) to make sure they were sharp within the DOF area.

I took many shots and missed a tripod to get perfect horizontal pans and to let my arms rest. The sun burned my neck.

Good panning technique Galder! Sharp on the riders and bike with a blurry BG.

Personally I go for an even slower shutter speed, down to a 1/10 and that really throws the BG out! I've got a pic from Bangkok to post that shows this. It just means you have to be really accurate with pointing the camera and you'll get 30 rubbish pics for one useable one.

Hi Galder,
Well captured, I took some similar shots in Laos as well, striking to se the "driver" wears a helmet, but the passenger not (observation seen in whole Asia). Anyway I do like the panning showing the motion of the mpoed. Fine shot my friend! Gracias.

A great capture here. I like the fact that the young girl is still sitting ladylike on the back of the motorbike. Great panning shot. They were aware of your presense but still kept a inquisitive stare. Nice work

Sorry I have not seen your site in a while and you are turning out some great work - this is no exception, I love the casual look of the ladies on the bike with your panning and naturalness makes it look so natural! Lovely shot in all aspect, focus colours, DoF, etc...brilliant. Nice work. Best wishes

An excellent example of panning, Galder, and spot-on exposure as well. You've taken your time, tried different settings and finished up with a perfect example of the technique - super post for Treklens and a good note as well. Full marks all round :-) To catch the girls looking in your direction is an added bonus.

You did a wonderful job panning. I like your pov and it has a good dof with nice details on the subjects. Great colors. Well done, tfs.
